April to June, September to October is the most popular season. Renaissance Florence, cypress-lined Chianti roads and long lunches at wine estates. Most guests split their time between the city and a countryside base.
Florence (FLR) is 20 minutes from the city; Pisa (PSA) is about 1 hour by train or car.
Florence's historic center is a ZTL limited-traffic zone. Rental cars entering it get fined automatically, so park outside and walk. Trains run often from Florence to Pisa, Lucca and Arezzo; buses reach Siena faster than trains. In the Chianti countryside you need a car or a driver. Taxis are rare, so pre-book rides back from dinner. For a group of 8 or more, a private minivan with driver costs less per head than several taxis.
Good group options include chianti wine tour with tastings at two estates, florence highlights walking tour, skip-the-line Uffizi Gallery guided tour, tuscan cooking class in a farmhouse. Most have private options for 10 to 20 people.
