Booking a group dinner in Tuscany

  • Ask for a "menu fisso" (set menu) for groups of 10 or more. It keeps the bill simple and the kitchen fast.
  • Dinner usually starts between 8 and 9:30 pm. Many kitchens close between lunch and dinner.
  • Tipping: Not expected. Many restaurants add a small "coperto" cover charge per person. Rounding up or leaving 5 to 10% for great service is appreciated.
  • Book two to three months ahead for groups over 20, especially in high season (April to June, September to October).
  • Ask about deposits, minimum spend and the cancellation policy in writing.
  • Plan transport back to the hotels. For a group of 8 or more, a private minivan with driver costs less per head than several taxis.
