Getting there and around

Arriving: Liberia (LIR) in Guanacaste is about 1h15 from Tamarindo and 30 minutes from the Papagayo Peninsula. San José (SJO) is 4 to 5 hours away by road.

  • Pre-book shuttles from Liberia airport. Shared shuttles are cheap, private vans are best for groups.
  • Rent a car, ideally a 4x4, to explore beyond town. Some beach roads are unpaved and rough in the rainy season.
  • Tamarindo town is walkable, but other beaches and the venue are usually a drive away.
  • Book a shuttle for the wedding night. Roads are dark and taxis are scarce outside town.

Booking rooms for your wedding group

  • Most guests come in high season (December to April). Set up a room block or share hotel picks 9 to 12 months ahead, because good rooms go first.
  • Keep guests in one or two areas if you can. Shared shuttles and meeting points get much easier.
  • Guests here mostly need a car or a driver. Staying close to the venue, or booking a wedding-night shuttle, saves a lot of late-night stress.
  • Ask hotels for a group rate with no attrition penalty, a cut-off date about 30 to 60 days before the wedding, and free delivery of welcome bags.
