Getting there and around

Arriving: Edinburgh (EDI) is 25 minutes from the city center by tram or taxi, and about 1 hour from Gleneagles in Perthshire. Glasgow (GLA) is an alternative.

  • Central Edinburgh is compact and hilly. Walking is the best way around the old and new towns.
  • The tram runs from the airport to the city center every few minutes.
  • Trains from Edinburgh Waverley reach Perthshire, Stirling and St Andrews' nearest station, Leuchars.
  • Driving is on the left. For a castle or countryside venue, book a coach for guests on the wedding day.

Booking rooms for your wedding group

  • Most guests come in high season (May to September). Set up a room block or share hotel picks 9 to 12 months ahead, because good rooms go first.
  • Keep guests in one or two areas if you can. Shared shuttles and meeting points get much easier.
  • You can get around here without a car, so a central base near restaurants works well for most guests.
  • Ask hotels for a group rate with no attrition penalty, a cut-off date about 30 to 60 days before the wedding, and free delivery of welcome bags.
